OverviewSenior Software Developer (Python) at Wärtsilä, joining a data science platform and operations team to support sustainable maritime technology. The preferred location is Helsinki, Finland with the possibility of hybrid work.What you will be doingMaintain infrastructure for processing maritime data and collaborate with teams building customer-facing applications such as the Fleet Operations Solution ( On a typical day, you might write Python code to improve internal tools and investigate delayed data. You will not be working on this alone; you will have support from teammates, including developers and data engineers.Your work will help shipping companies reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to real-world fuel savings across our client fleet, aiding decarbonisation of the marine industry.ResponsibilitiesProactively interacting with stakeholders to determine requirementsImplementing features for existing Python-based services and toolsDebugging and resolving production service issuesCollaborating with data ops engineers to streamline delivery of statistical models and data to customersSupporting developers, data scientists and analysts across teams using the platformQualificationsCuriosity and willingness to learnStrong listening skills and the ability to ask the right questions to understand how and why systems workMotivation to modernize the stack and process telemetry data from oceangoing vesselsExperience as a Python developer with core competencies in Linux, Kubernetes and automated testingClear written and spoken EnglishGood documentation habitsExperience working with time-series data and / or dataflow computingAdditional contextAs Senior Software Developer, you may also explore other responsibilities in the team, such as monitoring, metrics and logging, improving Agile practices, or diving into topics like Kalman filters and Gaussian processes.
