Overview
We are seeking an experienced Caterpillar Generator Datacentre Commissioning Engineer (Electrical) to join our team and support the delivery of critical datacentre power infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full commissioning of Caterpillar diesel generator systems, ensuring all electrical installations are tested, verified, and handed over in compliance with client specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical commissioning of Caterpillar generator systems within datacentre environments, including standby and prime power systems.
- Review project drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications to prepare commissioning plans and procedures.
- Perform pre-commissioning checks, insulation resistance tests, and functional tests on generator control panels, switchgear, and associated electrical equipment.
- Execute load bank testing, synchronisation testing, and black-building tests to verify generator performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults, control issues, and performance anomalies during commissioning.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards, including LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out), and adherence to site-specific risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
- Prepare commissioning documentation including FAT / SAT reports, test sheets, and final sign-off packages for client approval.
- Liaise with project managers, client representatives, and other trades to coordinate commissioning activities and meet project milestones.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and subcontractors as required.
- Support post-commissioning activities, including client training, snag resolution, and performance optimisation.
Key Requirements
Electrical Engineering qualification (Degree, HNC / HND, or equivalent).Proven experience commissioning Caterpillar diesel generator systems, preferably in datacentre or mission-critical environments.Strong understanding of generator control systems (EMCP, Woodward, Deep Sea, or similar).Familiarity with switchgear, LV distribution systems, UPS integration, and SCADA / BMS interfaces.Ability to interpret and work from electrical schematics and control diagrams.Good knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (BS7671, IEC, ISO, NFPA where applicable).Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.Willingness to travel to project sites (domestic and international if required).Please apply to discuss further or contact me directly on
