Postdoctoral Researcher in Circular Supply Chain Management.
Hanken School of Economics is looking for a post doc researcher for 16 months in circular supply chain management to do research in the project Sustainable Innovation for Growth : Exploring circular business models for a logistics service provider.
The required profile focuses on the circular economy from a sustainable business model perspective. This is an impactful project where the post doc researcher works closely with the partner company, a logistics service provider offering circular economy (CE) services. The research focuses on extending the lifespan and circularity of consumer electronics through scaling emerging business models and understanding ecosystems.
The academic focus of the project is to deepen the understanding of supply chains and logistics in the research context and to theorize circular business models and ecosystems, utilizing rich data insights gained from industry collaboration. The industry impact and practical learnings are an important part of the project. It aims to provide knowledge that can help Finnish industry drive sustainable growth through the extension of product lifespans, thereby strengthening societal resilience. The results should support Finnish industry in developing the capabilities needed to take advantage of EU regulation and CE business opportunities.
The project uses mixed methods, with a focus on qualitative research (interviews, case studies), but quantitative skills are of benefit. The researcher works closely integrated with the industry partner, so industry know-how, as well as collaboration and communication skills are needed. The project is funded by the Finnish Impact Foundation.
The position is for 16 months, depending on when you can start (earliest start September 2025).
Your primary work task as a postdoctoral researcher is to conduct scholarly research within the circular supply chains of the consumer electronics industry, provide insights for the industry partner, prepare manuscripts for publication, and help finalize and disseminate the project results. Additionally, some teaching tasks are included.
Eligibility requirements : Applicants for this position are required to have (a) a PhD degree within a relevant subject and (b) a fluent command of English. Finnish know-how can be a benefit. Applicants close to their PhD defense can be considered if the defense date is decided.
The following qualifications are considered as further merits when evaluating applicants :
Good knowledge of research methods required for the project
Familiarity with research within sustainable supply chain management and circular economy
Existing high-quality academic publications
Industry experience
A solid knowledge of the required profile area is prioritized in evaluating and ranking applicants. Special consideration is given to candidates who have demonstrated their ability to produce high-quality research and manage research projects, and can collaborate with companies.

The salary for the project researcher is based on the university salary system in Finland (including employee healthcare as well as pension and holiday contributions); the exact salary level depends upon the recruited individual’s qualifications and performance. The entry level salary is in the range of 46.900 - 51.000 euro / year. Beyond the salary, the university’s foundation grants faculty members publication awards for high-quality publications.
